Quick Christmassy update…

with one comment

Sorry for the long absence. No excuse, really, just lack of motivation (and laziness) to post.

I’ve been doing well this past month since taking the cortisone. It was actually quite a breeze this time, compared to previous times. I probably should have paid attention to the doctor when he recommended no less than 3 grams. That is the standard dosage for this type of thing, and because the smaller dosage has worked so well for me in the past, I chose to ignore it (to my detriment). Either that, or I am having a brand new relapse. If I get fatigued, then I feel like I’m slurring my words and my left hand becomes very ‘stupid’ is the only way I can describe it. Of course, it could also be due to the frightful heat-wave that we are experiencing at the mo.

The actual reason that I got it into my head to do a post was to share a song. I’ve been listening to it since yesterday and it struck me as one of the saddest songs I have ever heard. This song just speaks to me on some level. Isn’t it funny how songs can do that? It’s by the Beatles and even though I am quite a huge Beatles fan, I have never heard this one before. It’s called For No One, and the words are as follows:

For No One

Your day breaks, your mind aches
You find that all her words of kindness linger on
When she no longer needs you

She wakes up, she makes up
She takes her time and doesn’t feel she has to hurry
She no longer needs you

And in her eyes you see nothing
No sign of love behind the tears
Cried for no one
A love that should have lasted years

You want her, you need her
And yet you don’t believe her when she says her love is dead
You think she needs you

And in her eyes you see nothing
No sign of love behind the tears
Cried for no one
A love that should have lasted years

You stay home, she goes out
She says that long ago she knew someone but now he’s gone
She doesn’t need him

Your day breaks, your mind aches
There will be times when all the things she said will fill your head
You won’t forget her

And in her eyes you see nothing
No sign of love behind the tears
Cried for no one
A love that should have lasted years

The Beatles were way deeper than they were given credit for.

I’ve caught the cold (from Michael) that is going around in these parts. Right on cue for Christmas. Not very pleasant. I’ve decided to eat exclusively raw foods today to nip it in the bud. Even the healthiest food, once cooked, becomes phlegm-producing. A cold is a body’s natural way of detoxing, so I’m not too perturbed by it. I’ll be ‘cleaner’ going out than coming in. And yes, I am a bit of a nut.

The gym is closed for ten days. And I managed to put my back out again about five minutes after my last swim for the year. Typical. I’d better start sucking up to people with pools at their homes, because swimming is the only way I can click it back in without the (expensive) help of a chiropractor.

I’m not feeling that Christmassy this year. Not for above reasons, either. We went Christmas shopping yesterday, and I was struck by how miserable and stressed out my fellow shoppers were looking. No joy of the festive season in sight. Commercialism is slowly but surely strangling Christmas, and it’s true meaning. Very sad, actually.

Tonight should revive my flagging spirits, however. M’s family is all together this year and we will be partying it up there tonight, exchanging gifts, and most importantly, just spending time together.

Another thing that is ruining Christmas for me a bit is that my grandfather is in hospital. He broke his hip some two weeks back, and while the hip surgery went well and his hip is not bothering him, he contracted bronchial pneumonia in the process. He is confused and syas he’s ‘ready for the box’. I can’t believe how much he has gone down in two short weeks. He has become an old, old man overnight. I love that old guy so much, and it is breaking my heart. Please send some Christmas prayers along his way.

And lastly, to all my fellow bloggers, may you all have a very merry and blessed Christmas! Even if it is a tad commercial 😉
