Quick pop in.

with 3 comments

This is just a quick pop in to prove that I am not going to desert my blog for an extended period of time. Again. Ha ha.

I’m nearly down to the one month to go until my exam mark. I have found (extremely belatedly) a teacher whom I want to book a couple of lessons with just to check if I am up to standard. Don’t want any unpleasant surprises.

It is extremely and bitterly cold here at the moment. Last night had a minimum of -5. And that is metric, not imperial, if you were thinking fahrenheit. Brrrrrrrrr. Hot water bottles are the order of the day, and I can hardly be separated from mine. Michael too, andΒ  his is a fluorescent pink one πŸ˜‰

Bed is really the only place to be in this weather! Maybe M and I can turn in before midnight for a change.

My sister, the music teacher, thinks I am crazy. I dropped one of my exam pieces and picked a new List C one with six weeks to go till D-day. She couldn’t believe it, ha ha. I’m glad I did, though. The last week has been blood, sweat and tears, trying to learn the bloody thing. But I’m nearly there, and I just happened upon a lovely pocket of ‘repeats’ This is when there is a passage in the sheet music that is an exact replica of a passage that occurs earlier in the piece which you have already learnt! It felt like Christmas in July briefly when I discovered it. So happy!

When I have the pieces note perfect, I am going to ask M to videotape me playing then and hopefully I will be able to put them on Youtube to share and then you will know what I am on about. It’s so vague and abstract, otherwise, me talking about my ‘pieces’.

The only thing to do in this Siberia-esque weather to warm up, M & I have found, is to play a quick couple of games of table-tennis. If we play early in the evening, it keeps us warm till we go to bed. Plus, I get so mad at him that it raises my temperature nicely, too. He can be so smug when he wins. And if I win (with him having a handicap, mind you) then he tells me that he was only playing at 90% of his capacity. lol.

Moral of the story, even if someone gets on your nerves, it is still worth it to play, even if just to warm up.

We are actually getting some nice exercise, between the table-tennis and taking Beary for walks. She loves her walk, especially when we follow-up with a trip to Michael’s mom’s house, where Beary can run around in their yard a bit and smell all the exciting smells that are there from the other dogs. Plus, my MIL is kind enough to keep a plate of food for Beary for when she visits, so she really does feel at home.

Beary actually has finally come on heat. About time, as she is nearly a year old. Her birthday is on the same day as Michael’s, which is 8th of August. We want to let her have puppies once, but not before she is fully grown. In fact, she should skip at least two of her heat cycles, I think. Plus we need to find the perfect stud for our princess, lol. Not just any straat-brak chow πŸ™‚

On that subject, I am feeling really broody myself.

Babies, babies everywhere! Was it always like this? I am getting to the age where allΒ  my friends are having babies. And I. Want. One.

I have already found the perfect father for my kids πŸ˜‰ Only probs is the medication I am on. If I go off the meds to have a child, I can’t get back onto the trials, thereby losing my spot. And as I am recovering from quite a sh*tty MS-relapse, the prospect of losing my trial meds is a trifle scary.

But I want a baby, dammit. At 29 years of age I am starting to hear the faint ticking of my heretofore unacknowledged biological clock.

This phenomenon is rearing its head in the strangest ways. Earlier in the week, I saw an ad for a pot-bellied piglet. I begged Michael for one, but he said no. Actually, what he said was, “The only pig you’ll be having is for breakfast”. And I don’t even eat pork, lol.

Just as well. Probably, Beary and the pig would be a troublesome combination. And honestly, I don’t want a baby pig. I want a baby human. That looks a bit like me and a bit like Michael πŸ˜‰

Anyway, off to put in another hour or so’s practise on the keybiard before bed. But before I go, here are some Beary photo’s, taken with Michael’s brand spanking new Nokia N97.

Here she is on our walk this afternoon. Notice the shadow to her left, with its tongue hanging out.

This was taken about 10 mins ago, with her lying just around the corner from where I am at the computer.

And then she decided it was too cold on the tiles and relocated to the ‘her’ couch. The photo is a bit hazy as there was no time to focus. You get one shot, and then after she clocks the camera she buggers off at high-speed πŸ˜‰

Oh my goodness, but I just remembered that I have a blog!

I’m sorry I have been away for so long without soΒ  much as a by-your-leave.

Maybe a couple of my readers that are subscribed to a feed-reader will still bother to pop by and read this, but I’m sure the others are long gone 😦

The reason for my extended absence? Probably the eye-strain I was experiencing. I had so much trouble with my eyes and vision that it was just too much effort to try and do much on the pc. I was on the Internet Junkie Lite option. Hardly 5 minutes a day online. I’m surprised that alone didn’t finish me off, lol.

It all culminated in a three day stay in hospital, getting IV cortisone. Not exclusively for my eyes, I was also having a bit of a MS relapse. Then, once out of hospital, the flu I have struggling with for an eternity about two months picked up again where it left off. The weirdest sore throat and swollen palate (which really freaked me out) that I have ever experienced. A five-day course of antibiotics later and I am feeling distinctly better. Yay for medical science. Yay, I tell you πŸ™‚

My eyes and vision have improved a lot, so here I am, back in the blogosphere. What fun. I missed the interaction and fab comments that I get from y’all. Hope that I am still worthy of one or two after my rude and unexplained departure.

What is taking up a lot of my time at the moment is twofold. 1) Studying and 2) skiving off from studying, which largely takes the form of baking and eating results of baking. In the past month alone, I have made 2X Malva puddings, 1X large batch Lemon Curd, 1X batch buttermilk rusks, 1X Greek coconut tart 1X Banana bread and assorted muffins.

In spite of this, I have been rapidly losing weight, thanks to the cortisone and the general ill health I have been experiencing. Very annoying. I have passed slim and slender and have now arrived at skinny which I don’t care for at all. What I especially don’t care for is how people think they are fully entitled to pass comment about it all the time! I don’t comment about how ?xyz? you are looking, so please don’t get that freak out look on your face and tell me how anorexic I am looking. I can assure you, I do not have an eating disorder. I am drinking protein shakes between meals even, so relax.

I really must get back to the gym and put on some muscle weight again. Much healthier.

I am so hoping that I pass my grade 7 piano exam in Septemeber. And the grade 5 theory too, in October. I am so looking forward to the prospect of giving lessons to beginner keyboard/ piano students next year. I can barely wait.

Other than that, I have just been trying to be a better housewife in general.

(I feel like a 1950’s house-wife, only less groomed and less efficient,Β  ha ha ha.)

But I am cooking better, healthier meals, I think, and keeping the house more clutter-free so that I can think. πŸ˜‰ Between Michael and Beary, this is not the easiest task, but I try.

Well, that is the basic catch-up post taken care of. I feel like I can make the odd post now and again now without feeling like I have to re-introduce myself from scratch. Maybe I can even get some fresh batteries for my camera and post some pictures, which will probably feature Beary and/or Michael. With the roses being in between seasons, there isn’t much else in the way of camera fodder at the moment πŸ˜‰ Luckily they are both really cute.

Ciao for now

PS I missed this! Why do I neglect my blog?
