Blogging Bunny-style

Happy old year’s eve ;-)

What a year 2009 has been. Too much has happened to encapsulate it all without doing a marathon post, which I really don’t have time for just now. Suffice it to say that it has not been the worst year for me. Quite a good one, actually.

One of the reasons I haven’t been blogging lately (apart from sheer laziness, hehe) is that my computer has kicked the bucket. Its demise was not sudden or unexpected. It has been living on borrowed time for a while now. Still sad though 😦

But a pretty good excuse for not blogging.

Right now, I am using Michael’s laptop while he is sleeping. But the thing about Michael’s laptop is that is it usually with Michael. And if it’s here at home, the chances are good that he’s using it. So my ‘puter time is no longer unlimited 😉

Plus, a person never feels that comfortable on someone else’s computer, right. lol

The reason I have crawled out of the woodwork to do a post is that a) it’s the last day of the year, my last chance I will ever get to blog in 2009, and b) something nice happened to me this morning that I would like to remember. So I will blog it.

This morning I went with Michael to work so that I could have the car for the morning. (I have to go to town in the morning because it gets so hot later on and our air-con is broken. And everything is closed at this time of year, so we can’t get it fixed yet.)

Anyway, so first I went and off-loaded a huge shipment of black garbage bags filled with recyclable materials at the depot. I am all about recycling these days, but it’s a bit of a schlep to actually take it off to get recycled, and not just lie around in my garage until we can’t play table-tennis anymore for lack of actual space to shuffle around the table to reach the ball. Sore losers tend to grasp at that excuse, ha ha.

I feel very proud of myself for finally getting around to taking the stuff.

New year’s resolution no.1: Take recyclable garbage to the depot at least once every two months!!

Phew, I think I may just be able to manage the 10km trip to do that. lol.

After that, I went to the Mall to collect a parcel at the post office. I hate going to the mall on my own. The underground parking gives me the heeby-jeebies. The whole process of getting myself and my (unscathed) car in and out of there makes me a tad anxious.

Sure enough, today was not without a glitch. I managed to get in the mall. I managed to get the darn parcel, which is a feat in itself at that post office. Then, when I went to pay my R2 parking fee, the machine swallowed my R2 coin and my parking ticket. So I was stuck in the mall’s dodgy underground parking lot.

Suddenly, the security guard materialised beside me, as well as a very helpful Indian lady with two adorable children in tow. (Really the most angelic little boys). She explained to me that the machine doesn’t accept coins (even though it says it does, because it’s out of order). She pushed a button and my card (my precious card 😉  ) popped out. Luckily I had a R20 banknote in my wallet, so I paid with that and got a whole lot of change. I quipped that it was like playing the slot machines. To this, my good samaritan replied that she did play the slot-machines and won R84000, which she gave away to charity.

Wow. (I am so impressed at that, because if I ever won some sort of jackpot, I would keep it all, hehe)

She told me to have Happy New Year, we smiled at each other and parted ways.

Why can’t we, as humans, always be nice to each other? I will pay it forward and be super nice and patient with some stanger that needs it. Even if it is a moron who doesn’t know how to pay her parking at the mall 😉

Looking back over the past year, I feel pleased.

My health has continued to improve in small increments. The latest improvement that I have noticed is that I am not overly sensitive to the heat anymore. I can take hot baths if I feel like it without being floored by it. And in the intense heat that we are experiencing right now in December, I am coping really well. I can even drive to town in a car without air-conditioning and do some shopping. Unheard of over the past couple of years, believe me.

I have gone five months (and counting) without an MS relapse, which is so wonderful.

Funny thing that – I finally learn to cope with my multiple sclerosis relapses and then I get a five month break. Actually, not so much ‘funny’ as ‘downright , over-the-moon-with-joy, marvelous’!!!

I haven’t had a festive season without an MS relapse in forever, so I’m really appreciating this one.

As far as last year’s reso’s go, I managed one of the big ones. Passing my grade 7 piano exam. This has been quite a long-standing ambition of mine, so I’m pretty pleased about that.

I’ll have to cut this short now…. will pop in tomorrow for the whole New Year’s Resolutions thing and also to give an account of exactly how much we are enjoying our little Teddy bear 😉

To be continued….
